TAKING THE
DEVIL HEAD-ON

DEVIL HEAD-ON
Pentecostalists believe very strongly in aiming
directly at the Devil and his works. Sometimes, that's a
must. However, there are many problems with using the
'frontal assault' approach by itself. For instance:
- The thing they are attacking may not be Satanic; it
may just seem so. We need to understand why a person is
the way they are. For example, mental disturbance may
look like it's made by the devil, but usually it isn't.
Instead of going off condemning people and popular
culture, we need to find out why something that
seems demonic is so popular. What is the symbolism
touching in us that gives it so much effect? It'd be
easier to get teenagers away from dabbling in the
occult if we really thought about what the occult is
appealing to in the teenage mind. - It takes time to develop a relationship of trust
with those who are unknowingly doing or supporting the
Devil's work. It takes time to show love, and it takes
time for that love to be trusted. They're people, and
none of them are beyond the reach of Christ's
love. - Some people don't really let themselves feel the
ugliness of spiritual warfare. They actually
want to see spiritual combat, see devils lash
out and experience extended struggles with sensational
happenings. To them, it's a swashbuckling adventure,
and they're the heroes. But think of real
guns-and-bombs war here : the carnage, death,
destruction, and hatred -- there are some who find that
exciting, too. They need to grasp the truth of how
horrible such things are. - Satan's work is not at all simple. It goes on at
all sorts of different levels from all sorts of
thoughts, people, movements, and happenings. Hit it
from only one angle, and the Devil works all the other
angles that much harder.
So, direct attacks on a work of Satan have their
place, but not by themselves. A badly-aimed attack is
like a mischosen drug that can kill the patient.

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not
to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at
variance against his father, and the daughter against her
mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that
loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me:
and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not
worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and
followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his
life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake
shall find it." (Matthew 10:34-39)

Sometimes our fight with the devil is just not so.....and we can become fools instead of warriors....

Satan's Tactics to Destroy Believers
Satan called a worldwide convention. In his opening
address to his evil angels, he said,
"We can't keep the Christians from going to church.
We can't keep them from reading their Bibles & knowing
the Truth. We can't even keep them from conservative
values. But we can do something else. We can keep them
from forming an intimate, abiding experience in Christ.
If they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over
them is broken."
"So let them go to church, let them have their
conservative lifestyles, but steal their time, so they
can't gain that experience in Jesus Christ."
"This is what I want you to do, angels. Distract them
from gaining hold of their Savior & maintaining that
vital connection throughout their day!"
"How shall we do this?", shouted his angels.
"Keep them busy in the non-essentials of life & invent
un-numbered schemes to occupy their minds", he answered.
"Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, then, borrow, borrow,
borrow. Convince the wives to go to work & the husbands to
work 6 or 7 days a week, 10-12 hrs. a day, so they can
afford their lifestyles. Keep them from spending time
with their children. As their family fragments, soon,
their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of
work."
"Over stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that
still small voice. Entice them to play the radio or
cassette player whenever they drive, to keep the TV,
the VCR, & their CD's going constantly in their homes.
And see to it that every store & restaurant in the
world plays music constantly. This will jam their
minds & break that union with Christ. Fill their
coffee tables with magazines & newspapers. Pound their
minds with the news 24 hrs. a day. Invade their driving
moments with billboards. Flood their mailboxes with
junk mail, sweepstakes, mail order catalogues, & every
kind of newsletter & promotional offering, free products,
services, & false hopes."
"Even in their recreation, let them be excessive. Have
them return from their recreation exhausted, disquieted
& unprepared for the coming week. Don't let them go out
in nature. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events,
concerts & movies instead. And when they meet for spiritual
fellowship, involve them in gossip & small talk so that
they leave with troubled consciences & unsettled emotion."
"Let them be involved in soul-winning. But crowd their
lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek
power from Christ. Soon they will be working in their own
strength, sacrificing their health & family unity for the
good of the cause."
It was quite a convention in the end.
And the evil angels went eagerly to their assignments
causing Christians everywhere to get busy, busy, busy
& rush here & there.
Has the devil been successful at his scheme?
You be the judge.

Thank God that the lord chastens those whom he loves!
Glory to God for his Mercy!
